Nouvelle séance de séminaire du LISCA

Séminaire / Recherche

Le 25 mai 2022

Saint-Martin-d'Hères - Domaine universitaire

Deuxième séance du séminaire fédérateur du LISCA.

Nous entendrons à cette occasion Jessica Small qui présentera une communication intitulée "Truth, Lies, and Credibility in Selected Works of Contemporary Refugee Literature" :

This talk will draw on the representations of lies and storytelling in a variety of contemporary refugee literatures in order to argue that, in these works, credibility depends on narrative capital; on the one hand, as demonstrated through the particular exercise of crafting an asylum story and its varying success rates; and on the other, through the strategies involved in the successful propagation of the "hospitality" narrative through which certain powers of the Global North have been able to manipulate perceptions of their treatment of asylum seekers. The presentation will conclude with a meditation on the relationship of truth and fiction in these texts, whose writers somewhat paradoxically insist on their fictitious nature in spite of their generic fluidity, precisely to eschew credibility and to claim "truth" itself.
